Where Should I Go to Get Care Right Away?
Emergency room wait times are at an all-time high, and ER visits can cost more than you think. Why is this? One reason is that many people use the ER without knowing that alternatives exist. If you’re not having a true emergency, you can get quality care without visiting the ER.
Go to a walk-in center.
If your doctor isn’t available in a nonemergency situation, walk-in centers may meet your need with extended hours, weekend hours or quick availability. No appointment or referral is needed; just walk in. The centers typically treat a variety of non-life-threatening issues including minor lacerations, minor burns, sprains and strains, sports injuries, sore throats, earaches and flu. The wait times are generally far shorter than in an emergency room, and your out-of-pocket expense can be significantly less.
No appointment or referral needed.
Walk-in centers can provide care for a variety of injuries and illnesses. Anthem has a network of participating centers that can often save you time and money compared to an emergency room. Simply choose the center closest to you and walk right in.
Emergency room rule of thumb.
Call 911 or go to the emergency room if you think delaying care could put your health at serious risk. The Walk in Center office co-pay is the same as a specialist office visit co-pay.
