Anthem & Covenant Health Contract Negotiations

Important Update on Anthem and Covenant Health Contract Negotiations

Anthem and Covenant Health have been negotiating for several months in an effort to reach a new agreement that would keep the providers that are part of Covenant Health in the Anthem network.  Covenant Health includes the following facilities and doctors:

  • St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and its doctors, including primary care physicians (PCPs)
  • St. Joseph Hospital and its doctors, including PCPs
  • St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion
  • Home Health and Hospice of St. Joseph
  • St. Joseph Ambulatory Care/St. Joseph Infusion Center

If Anthem and Covenant Health don’t reach an agreement by July 4, Covenant Health facilities and physicians will leave the Anthem network effective July 5, 2023.  As with all potential provider terminations, the MEA Benefits Trust understands that members will be concerned about continuity of care.  We recognize that provider contract disputes creates unrest and uncertainty for our members.  Anthem understands that the Trust expects Anthem to negotiate fair compensation to providers and to maintain a balance between access to quality care and cost.  Anthem assures us that their negotiations are in line with that expectation.  We continue to work with them to ensure that result and will keep you updated as we learn more about their progress toward a new agreement.  Anthem has created the following website to keep its members informed, https://www.anthem.com/covenantmaine/
